Best Bet Diner Proves Customer Service Still Exists!

Author: Fishers Food  //  Category: Breakfast

My co-workers and I have been talking alot recently about the subject of customer service.  More specifically, the lack of customer service.  Many of our conversations have naturally gravitated toward the food and dining industry.  We all eat out.  We all enjoy eating out and expect good customer service.  However, over the past few months the stories about horrible customer service have poured in.  Employees not looking their customers in the eyes.  Ignoring your customers when dropping off the menus.  Arguing about using a coupon and accusing the customer of changing the date.  These are just a few of the things we have been subjected to over the past few months.

I made a vow to blog about my the next great customer service experience.  Months have passed since then.  But today I end my custom service blogging silence.  Because today I discovered that customer service does still exist!  And believe it or not, it is in the food and dining industry.

The diner, Best Bet,  is located in Noblesville, Indiana.  Best Bet is decked out with poker themed items such as chips, playing cards and even jail cell like bars around the register.   They serve a great breakfast and also offer lunch.    Here are the customer service points they can offer to any restaurant:

Acknowledge Your Customers - This is a small diner, but the place was packed.  There were 4-5 groups waiting at all times.  Instead of ignoring the waiting customers or acting frustrated, the owner went to each customer personally to start a brief conversation.  He shook their hand and made eye contact.  He thanked them for coming out.  He even offered complimentary drinks to some parties that had to wait more than 5 minutes.  Simply put, he embraced the situation and made the best of it.  Many times customers will leave as soon as they realize there is going to be a wait.  Because of these tactics, every single customer staid…with a smile on their face.

Personalize the Experience - Not only did the staff introduce themselves, but they also asked for first names from the customers.  These names were written on the order and on the final bill.  A small gesture that continued the overall great experience.

An Atmosphere To Remember - Poker themed decorations were very appropriate and well thought out.  Each table was a poker table with glass over the top of it.  The diner was clean and everyone was moving to deliver food promptly.  All employees seemed happy…a nice change of pace!

The Food and Follow Up - Of course the product must deliver on the high expectations.  The food was very tasty and solidified me doing this review.  And the follow up was great as well.  The staff came back to check up on their customers to confirm they were enjoying the experience.

Best Bet is truly a breath of fresh air in the Indianapolis, Indiana area.  This small diner is taking all of the little things that the big chains do wrong and capitalizing on their mistakes.  And even with an almost hidden location, the customers don’t stop coming through the doors!  Big restaurant chains – take notes!

Texas Roadhouse Review in Fishers Indiana

Author: Fishers Food  //  Category: Bar & Grill, Steakhouse

I don’t know why we never go to Texas Roadhouse. Heck, I love peanuts (with beer of course) and this is the place you can throw the peanut shells right on the floor like a real man. We think it might be because we’ve only tried a couple times, and it was probably Saturday night, so the place was packed.

Well, there’s good reason the Fishers Indiana restaurant is always busy, because the food is good and the service is great. It seems like they have about 30 employees making sure everything is cool. From the greeter at the door, to the two girls asking if you would like smoking or non-smoking (this place must technically be in Noblesville), the waiter who was almost too attentive, and the manager that probably had the most perfect managerial “look” I’ve ever seen - he just looked like a really nice guy . . . well let’s just say the service was great.

Now on to the Fishers Food. I just happened to leave work early and so we got there at 5:20, ten minutes to spare for their two meals for $14.99 deal we saw advertised at the table. I almost felt like I was an old man, but it sounded like a good price so we said what the heck. I had the 6 ounce sirloin steak and the wifey tried the barbeque chicken breasts. We had two choices of sides, plus the bread and peanuts, and beers. All for $14.99, that’s $7.50 a meal folks, and the food was great.

I was surprised at the thickness and tenderness of the steak. I never eat at Texas Roadhouse, I don’t know if I thought it was kind of hillbilly or what, but man do they have good steaks. The seasoned potato fries were also very good. Being a meat and potato guy, I chose mashed potatoes as my 2nd side, which were also starch-d-licious.

I didn’t even ask if the wifey liked her food, but she ate it all and never complained so I guess it was pretty good. Oh yeah, and when I mentioned Texas Roadhouse when we were trying to figure out someplace different to go, she said they had the best ranch dressing ever. Ever even. So take this review to the bank Fishers Food Fans, and try to get there before 5:30 so you can be an old 30 something couple like us.

Wise Guys Doesn’t Have Dumb Breadsticks

Author: Jerry  //  Category: Pizza

Whenever the topic of “favorite pizza” comes up with our local friends there is usually a mention of Wise Guys Pizza. The pizza is well respected by the Indianapolis community so we visited the Fishers location on Allisonville Road and 116th Street. We ordered a large sausage and green pepper pizza to go and left to run some errands down the road. When we came back to pick up our food the pizza guy joked that he had been making an order of breadsticks for every pizza, and he accidentally made an order for us, so we got them for free!

Shortly after tipping him a few bucks for the supposedly accidental breadsticks, we got home to enjoy the food. The pizza was good, the crust was great, and there were no complaints had by all.

The breadsticks, on the other hand, created quite the commotion. They may possibly be the best breadsticks in Fishers, or the township for that matter, or maybe even the entire county. Imagine a very large fluffy breadstick with curvy wide sections. Next imagine garlic, salt, butter and other mysterious seasonings on the top which are incredible. Combine the texture and the taste and you have one mean contender for Best Fishers Breadstick.

A Review of the Ram in Fishers Indiana

Author: Emily  //  Category: Bar & Grill

Being a three year resident of Fishers, with the population showing no signs of slowing but the presence of restaurants doing nothing much to keep up - I was delighted to see the opening of the new restaurant, The Ram. I decided to book a date with a couple of friends to try out the new Brewhouse. Upon arriving, I was a little nervous at the sight of the parking lot…would I be able to get a table? I was pleasantly surprised to find a perfect booth in the bar to sit and enjoy the scenery. The bar was indeed magnificent, very large with a nice display of plasma tv’s and a large projection TV boasting of course, football.

We were greeted by a friendly waiter. This was a relief as after many years of working in the service industry - I know that truly good service is few and far between. My friends and I decided on the Spinach Artichoke Dip for an appetizer. Once it arrived, I quickly realized that I wished I had ordered this as my entree. It was by far the best I have ever had……and I have had my fair share of spinach artichoke dips. Nearly full from the plentiful appetizer, my entree arrived, the Penne Gorgonzola with Grilled Chicken. It was exactly what I was hoping for, rich tastes of gorgonzola, garlic and grilled chicken. The service was top notch, and the food and atmosphere were great. My friends and I left completly satisfied, and I left knowing I now had a new favorite in town.

India Sizzling Breaks up the Monotony

Author: Emily  //  Category: Indian Food

In an attempt to put a halt to our daily routine, otherwise known as “the rut”, my husband and I decided to break away from our usual night out of burgers, steaks, and pizza to try something new. My husband, home from an hour-long commute, walked in the door and suggested we try the new Indian Restaurant in town, India Sizzling. Although based on the recommendation of a trustworthy source, this was a stretch for him to adventure this far out of his comfort zone. He’s your typical ‘meat & potatoes’ kind of guy – he likes his Miller Lite, the same pizza once a week, and is not ashamed to admit his many-times-a-week McDonalds habit. I accept the invitation with excitement as well as reservation. I’m happy to try something new, but feel it may be inevitable that our night will end in a trip through a drive-thru.

So we’re off on a restaurant adventure. When we arrive at India Sizzling, I am taken aback by the decor. It was simple and serene, colorful with a rich feeling of Indian culture, yet very modern and tasteful. Iron sculptures line the walls, depicting what I imagine to be a landscape of India - very beautiful. We are greeted and seated immediately as there is only one other family in the restaurant. Our server brings us water and two beverage menus - I am a little disappointed that we do not have our food menus yet - as I am very excited as well as STARVING. We settle on two Miller Lites (some ruts are hard to break out of), and anticipate being able to look over the food choices.

Alas, our server brings the menus. I suddenly feel overwhelmed and confused - what on earth are all these dishes and how do you pronounce them? The choices include chicken, lamb and seafood Tandori Treasures from their clay oven; vegetable entrees; Samundarka Khazana (Seafood); Bombay Indo-Chinese; and many Chicken, Gosht and Lamb selections. I ponder for awhile and decide to do what anyone who has ever worked in the food industry would do - ask the server for recommendations. I do have an idea of what I might like, and I ask the server about the Manchurian (Dumplings of veggies/chicken deep fried & simmered in a tasty sauce). He explains it has a bit of a Chinese taste, more Chinese spices than Indian, and this is fine for me as I am counting on “sharing” my husbands 100% Indian dish. My husband, not knowing what’s going on, says he would like something “with chicken and rice and a little spicy”. Our server recommends the Chicken Tikka Masala, and we also agree to add a side of vegetable fried rice. Next our server brings some sort of crunchy flat bread - delicious and full of flavor - with two dipping sauces. I assume that one is a cilantro sauce, which was unbelievable, and the other is some sort of cumin-pepper sauce. We wait in anticipation for our dinners to arrive.
